This short video provides an overview of Estonia’s Digital Identity systems.
It describes how from birth every Estonian is issued a unique, unchangeable 11 digit Personal Identification Number from the Government.
This is encoded into the chip of a mandatory identity card, and primarily functions to implement a PKI network for securely signing digital documents, and protecting user authentication security through linked PIN codes.
A number of private sector as well as public sector organizations accept these digital identities for their own online services. It enables people to submit legally recognized digital signatures.
